Born and raised in Vero Beach, Florida, Sydney O’Haire recently graduated with an MFA in Cinema Directing from the School of Cinematic Arts at DePaul University. Originally wanting to become a lawyer or politician, Sydney decided to cast that world aside, pursue a career in cinema, and never look back. In March, Sydney began traveling on the festival circuit with "Being Here" in its short film format where it was a Semi-Finalist at the Bermuda International Film Festival (Academy Award qualifying) and winner of "Best Student Film" at the Magnolia Independent Film Festival. The short film is a proof-of-concept for the feature film version of the story, and the feature screenplay was chosen as a Second Rounder for the 2019 Sundance Screenwriters Lab. In early 2017, Sydney directed and produced her first short film, “Dressed”, which was a winner of the Sydney Lift-Off Online Film Festival and chosen as an Official Selection of BendFilm Festival, SOHO International Film Festival, Berlin Lift-Off Film Festival, and more. Recently she finished another short film she wrote and directed, “Pointe Work” and is in post-production with a micro-short comedy of her creation titled "Mmmm!". She is also directing a short documentary, “The Robo Queens”, that she filmed about the Women's Premier Soccer League in Nigeria and empowering young women through soccer and education. She hopes to ultimately pursue a career in directing and screenwriting, while still making time to explore the outdoors.
